Details: Did you ever think that a simple loan of $20 could actually bring a person out of poverty? Well it can! And the best part is you are 98% guaranteed to have your loan repaid. This November, NOBE, IEEE, the Illinois Microfinance Group, and Finance Club are teaming up with Kiva Microfunds to host the second annual "Micro-Loans. Macro-Impact" microfinance conference. The conference is dedicated to the awareness of the microcredit revolution and to educate students on how easy it can be to empower poor entrepreneurs and help alleviate poverty. Adam Grenier, a UW Madison alum who volunteered as a Kiva fellow will be attending as a keynote speaker to share his experience working with microfinance and explain how Kiva operates. There will be a required $5.00 donation to be admitted. All proceeds will go towards a U of I – Kiva legacy fund and supporting Kiva operations. One raffle entry will be awarded for every dollar donated. This includes one entry for each of the $5.00 required for admission. The raffle will take place at the conclusion of the conference and the winner will receive a $50 cash prize. There is no limit to donation amount. The conference is open to everyone, but space is limited so be sure to register in advance. Details: Stock Markets are a vital part of any economy. Many invest in various companies, and some make big money. The National Organization for Business and Engineering (NOBE) Stock Market Simulation Game is an interactive learning experience that allows players to invest $100,000 over 5 weeks to see how they would perform if they were to make the same choices on real stock exchanges. The game is run annually in the spring semester and the winners are rewarded with real cash prizes. Student involvement with the stock game grows each year, with over 100 participants this past spring. Unlike similar services online, our game uses real-time quotes in trading. It currently supports a variety of order types and shorting. |

Details: Microsoft will be on campus during the ECS Career Fair and would like to do a special presentation for NOBE, the Technology & Management Program and OTCR Consulting. Viral Shah, an alumni and past member of NOBE will be leading a presentation about three different roles at Microsoft: Program Manager, Associate Consultant, and Associate Product Manager (descriptions of each role are below). Viral is a Project Manager for the Office Global Experience Platform and has been with Microsoft for over a year. Viral has set up this presentation for our organization because he believes NOBE students would be high potential candidates, and this is a great networking and informational opportunity for you to meet with Microsoft. The presentation will be around 30-40 minutes with an opportunity for questions and a resume drop at the end. Look at announcements for details on the positions being discussed. |

NOBE, IEEE, Finance Club, and the Illinois Microfinance Brigades invite you to the 3rd annual Illinois Microfinance Forum on Saturday, October 16th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the ARC Multi Purpose Room 1. The purpose of the event is to raise the awareness of microfinance amongst the students at the University of Illinois. Microfinance is lending small capital to low-income entrepreneurs who do not have easy access to financial resources to build their businesses. It aims to improve their lives by helping them achieve financial sustainability and rise out of poverty. You will not want to miss the opportunity to learn more about the industry, which has had great success in developing worlds as well as the United States. Hear from Kiva fellow Dennis Espinoza, ACCION Chicago representative Tricia Scully, and Professor Madhu Viswanathan from the University of Illinois. Attendance is free and lunch will be provided. The National Organization for Business and Engineering (NOBE) Stock Market Simulation Game is an interactive learning experience that allows players to invest $100,000 over 8 weeks to see how they would perform if they were to make the same choices on real stock exchanges. The game is run annually in the spring semester and the winners are rewarded with real cash prizes. Student involvement with the stock game grows each year, with over 100 participants this past spring. Unlike similar services online, our game uses real-time quotes in trading.
